I like to introduce you to a new robotics competition program based out of Eric Hamber Secondary School: VSB Robotics Competition. Please have a look at the following website: https://vsbroboticscompetition.com/
This is not a platform specific competition (VEX-EDR, VEX-IQ, LEGO). There are no awards given. We play to better ourselves. Each event is limited to 5 robots per school or organization (to avoid overcrowding). There will be an entry fee required: $20.00 for the first robot and $5.00 for each subsequent robot up to 5 per school/organization per event. An event will take place every 4 to 6 weeks (depending on school holidays). All events will take place Friday evenings at Eric Hamber Secondary School. If you would like to host an event on Saturday, we can move the event to your school/organization. As a “Thank You’, all your robot(s) will get to play for free.
Each event will have different game requirements, different game elements and objects. This is to keep the game interesting and the robots competitive. The game objects will be announced 4 to 6 weeks before the event. The game elements and exact game details will be announced 4 to 6 days before the event. The website announcements will most likely include a short video to help with the explanations.
For January 2017, the game challenge theme is: Recycling
Game objects: https://vsbroboticscompetition.com/january-2017/
More details to be released on: Monday – January 17th, 2017
Event Date: Friday January 20th, 2017
Hint (start building now):
Your Robot should be able to:
- drive across the field
- pick up the pop cans
- lift the pop cans
- push the pop cans
I am in need of your help, please respond to my message by hitting ‘Reply’, I like to know:
- If your school/organization is interested in participating?
- Can I list your school/organization as a participant in the website?
- If we were to offer a prize for Creative and Innovative Design, would your team(s) be interested in participating? Your team will submit a 1 to 3 minutes cellphone video to be presented to the judges at the event. Should we give a prize for the Creative and Innovative Design? I am currently considering $20 gift certificate from iDesign.
Our first event is scheduled for: Friday January 20th, 2017
Please keep in mind, this should be in no way prevent your robot teams from participating in other robotics competition(s), such as VEX-Robotics Competitions and/or FIRST Robotics Competition. I am doing my best to schedule events around VEX competition dates. This robotics competition will continue on until the end of May and will start again in September. Event dates will most likely be the last Friday of the month.
FLOWOL – Programming Software
FLOWOL is a software that can be used to program/operate VEX robots (EDR and IQ) in semi and full autonomous modes. For those that have requested it, I have finished uploading tutorials to my jr. robotics website. VEX-EDR examples will be up by the end of spring break.

FLOWOL is now at half price for all BC schools. Please contact RobotMesh (re-seller) directly for details. For those in Vancouver, please contact me (if you haven’t already) for our group purchase discount. We should be receiving the software in January (via purchasing).
That’s it for now. If you wish to be remove from this email list, please reply to this message with “Please Remove”, and I will discontinue from sending you further information regarding robotics.
If you have any suggestions and/or comments, please feel free to direct them my way via email. The idea for this independent competition is the brain child of Peter Halim.
