VSB-Robotics Competition – Sep Email Update

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone have had a smooth start to the school year.  We (at Hamber) are about to restart our ‘Robot Night’ robotics challenge program.  We will host a Robot Night once a month, starting this upcoming Friday.

Our 2017 event dates (see the website for 2018 dates):

  • Friday – September 29, 2017 – Hamber
  • Friday – October 27, 2017 – Hamber
  • Friday – November 24, 2017 – Hamber
  • Wednesday – December 13, 2017 – Hamber

After much thinking and debate, we have decided not to offer any official robotics competition program at Hamber.  We have had a number of incidents last year where we felt the behaviour of students and parents were less than courteous and sportsman like.  This year at our Robot Nights, we will keep score and publicly recognize student success, but we will not offer any trophies or awards.

This upcoming Friday will be the first Robot Night of the year.  We will be offering 3 robot games where students can have unlimited attempts.  The 3 games to be played are: Drag Race, Robot Maze, and Robot Soccer.  At this event, we will be focusing on Driver Challenges (robots operated by a student) The exact game description will be available at our website this upcoming Wednesday afterschool. https://vsbroboticscompetition.com/

I would like to extend an invitation to you to come by and check out our event.  Regardless whether it may or may not be a perfect fit for your students/program, come by and see what we have to offer.  Please bring a camera to photograph and/or video the event for your students.  I would like to ask if you can send me a copy of your photos and videos so that I can post them to our website.  It would be much appreciated.

The agenda for the evening (best time to drop by is 5:30pm to 9:00pm): https://vsbroboticscompetition.com/the-agenda/

Parking:  https://vsbroboticscompetition.com/the-venue/

If you have student(s) that would like to come by, please forward our website info to them.  If they would like to bring a VEX-IQ bot and give our games a try, they are welcome to do so.  If you are coming with your students, we do have a number of house rule that you should be aware of:

and

https://vsbroboticscompetition.com/supervision/

Please do let me know how many your students will be coming so that I can pair them off with my students to give them a chance to play with our robots and participate in the event (if they want).  This Friday’s event will be a free event for all participants, future events will cost $20 per school/organization for the first robot and $5 per robot up to a maximum of 5 robots per school/organization per event.  https://vsbroboticscompetition.com/entry-fee/

Lastly, If you would like to be removed from this email list, please reply to this message with the words ‘Please Remove’ at the subject line and your email address will be removed off the list.

Please feel free to forward this message to your colleagues and students.  I hope to see everyone this Friday.
